Support Your Faves

BLUF: (Bottom Line Up Front) I appreciate your support.
Thank You!

Thank you for your support!

I got a bit frustrated this evening. No, scratch that; I’ve been a bit frustrated lately. Not with you, heck no. As a matter of fact, it is you who keeps me going. My issues are with Social Media and the direction it seems to be going. But I digress…. Let’s get back to a more positive topic. Tho, as my frustration builds, you can expect a rant coming soon.

You shouldn’t have to spend money to support your favorite photographers/artists on social media. Oftentimes, I will read people’s comments where they say they wish they could afford a print, a calendar, or training. Sure, I offer those things. Sure, that is where I make income as a photographer, but those are only a few of the ways in which you can support me. I say me, because I am writing this, but read, “your chosen artist/photographer.”

My Facebook Page is monetized. In the past, this used to be quite helpful. It definitely put ink in the printer. (It cost $750 to fill my printer’s ink.) These days, however, FB isn’t dependable to bring in much income at all. Funny how that happens when the ones paying you are also the ones deciding who sees your content and when/if. But I digress as I almost went off on a tangent…

Below are ways that you can support not only me, but also many of your favorite artists/content providers.

FREE METHODS

  • In a sea of computer-generated accounts that kick out content lightning fast, it can be tough for your human-controlled accounts, that post once or twice per day, to gain traction with the algorithm. How does FB's algorithm know what to put in front of you? They determine this via how well the post is doing. Meanwhile, they control what you see. It's a self-licking ice cream cone if you are an ad seller. Sadly, it's difficult to get noticed when the Feed is flooded with AI accounts posting fake "images" that garner 1.3M reactions, while I, and others like me, struggle to reach 500 reactions. https://www.facebook.com/JasonFazioPhotography

  • Force FB to show you more of what you want in your Feed as much as possible. You do not get a lot of tools to accomplish this, but there is one huge tool that you do have. Change the status of your favorite Pages from "Following" to "Favorite." It takes about five seconds. Here's a clip showing how to do this: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/82i6YfsGQR2NAbtc/?mibextid=oFDknk

FREE (Other Than Facebook)

  • I truly enjoy being sociable. Heck, just look at my social media; I try to reply to everyone. This is obviously not possible. Hence the creation of my Subscribers Only Section. (Discussed Later)

To aid in socializing, networking, and to help create a sense of community, I created an email list for those interested in getting out and doing something together. In the past, I've done things like morning sunrise shoots, day hikes, and the occasional sunset shoot. Oftentimes, the morning shoots involve an optional breakfast nearby, where I aim to bring patronage to a smaller mom & pop breakfast nook.

  • I put out an email every now and then. I try to do it at least quarterly. I am not a fan of my email account getting blown up by people who think everyone wants to hear from them every day. That's what blogs are for. So, if you sign up for my emails, don't be too surprised if you don't hear from me often.

I do run a small business, but I try hard not to make my emails feel like I'm simply advertising to you. The emails will focus more on my photography adventures, future plans, projects, both current and future, as well as photo outings that you are welcome to attend.

     Why sign up?

  • My blogs are where I have my fun! I've got a few different blogs. I like to keep them separate to help ensure you aren’t having to weed through topics that aren't of interest to you. My main topics are My Photography, a Photographer’s Blog, a Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) blog, and a blog for my Delica named the Five Billion Star Hotel (FBSH).

    • Photography Blog: This blog is likely for everyone. Here, I'll write about my photography adventures.

    • Photographer's Blog: (Coming Soon) This blog will be a bit more technical and geared toward photographers.

    • BLUF: This blog, the Bottom Line Up Front, is a rant blog. I'll likely blow off a bit of steam here.

    • FBSH: This blog will be geared toward those who have any interest in my Mitsubishi Delica L300, aka the Five Billion Star Hotel.

PAID METHODS

𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗗 𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗗𝗦:

In this section, I'll speak for myself as we (Landscape Photographers) all do things a bit differently and reside in different locations.

I don't happen to live on the border of Grand Teton National Park or Yosemite National Park. However, those happen to be my two favorite locations to photograph. I do happen to live in Colorado, and I try to make the best of my local situation. Even still, these windmills you see me photograph, the lone trees, the wild Lady Slipper Orchids in summer, they are often an hour away at times. Do that for two or three days, and there's a tank of fuel. Now, compare that to driving to California. It's expensive. I know, I know...., cry me a river, right?

I chose to do this. I choose to drive to Yosemite or the Tetons. That is true, but it largely misses the point. Those hours/days of driving are done for the love of it from my perspective. From yours, it's likely just another image scrolling by in your FB/IG feed. However, that AI account pumped out 100s or 1000s of posts in the time it took me to drive the hours necessary to even set up for a photo. The AI account didn't get up and hope for great conditions, slurp coffee, and eat a crappy breakfast while driving just to save time, scope out compositions days/weeks/months ahead of time, freeze for that beautiful February image that you love so much, or still have to drive back home and edit, write, post/blog. All I'm saying is, support your favorite humans! Much of your support is free to you. However, there are ways you can help your favorite artists financially that feel almost free.

SUBSCRIBE (Facebook)

I want to make sure those who genuinely want to socialize don't get overlooked. Sometimes I miss comments that are weeks old, and by the time I see them, they’re no longer relevant. The Subscribers section on my FB helps me avoid this by highlighting those who truly want to connect, not just drop in briefly.

FB requires me to charge something for subscriptions—the lowest they'll allow is $0.99/month, so that's what I’ve set it to. FB takes a cut, but I’m not doing this for income. It’s simply a way to identify and engage with those who are truly interested in being part of this space.

You may have seen this mentioned in my pinned posts and wondered, “Why subscribe to a FB Page?” For me, it’s about Control & Enjoyment. FB doesn’t give you many free ways to control what shows in your feed. One free option is to "Favorite" Pages instead of just following, which helps prioritize what you see—but FB limits how many you can favorite. (See the above section entitled FREE METHODS for instructions on how to Favorite vs Follow.

The only real way to ensure you consistently see content from a Page is to subscribe. For my Subscribers, I share more personal content, behind-the-scenes moments, early info, live streams, and even occasional meetups. It’s my way of bringing the “social” and the enjoyment back into social media.

Again, the cost is just $0.99/month. I have no plans to raise it. If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to check below.

FB STARS

Giving a Star costs you a penny per star. In your end, it's cheap. "That's not helpful," You might be saying. On the surface, a penny isn't that helpful, true. This is especially true when FB has yet to take its percentage of that penny. However, what if all of my followers, the ones who aren't Bots, Thieves, or Spies, gave a penny as well? Pretty soon, that fills a tank of gas, buys ink for my printer, or just a coffee on a freezing morning when I happen to be passing through a small town in the Middle-Of-Nowhere, UT. (FB Stars aren't available in all countries.)

In the bottom corner of some of my FB Reel/Video Posts, you'll see a Send Gift option.  That is where you send FB Stars.

DONATE

Now, I'm no 301c or anything, so there are no tax deductions on your end, but that doesn't mean your help isn't appreciated. Referring back to the cry-me-a-river spiel I went on earlier about long hours, miles, and expenses. It adds up. So do your donations. Please, don't feel like you've got to donate a lot to be of any help. None of us is likely to be Bill Gates. I know I definitely am not.

PRINTS

I offer two different styles of prints, Traditional and Limited Edition. The Traditional Prints are exactly that, traditional. They'll be your traditional sizes on your traditional mediums. The Limited Edition Prints will get white glove treatment, be numbered, stamped, and hand-signed. They will often be in an atypical size and require a custom frame. They are a great way to custom-fit that special place on your wall. Note: I will be narrowing my L.E. selection in the coming days/weeks.
